When a page on your site does not load, an error message will be shown to the site visitor. As there are different errors, there are different pages that'll appear, but what is common for all of them is that they're generic and almost certainly will have practically nothing that is similar to the design of your website, which could be aggravating for any site visitor. That is the primary reason why hosting service providers have introduced a function named Custom Error Pages. For a wide variety of different errors, site visitors will see your custom content, which may be informative or humorous, depending on your choice, and which shall match the layout of your website, so the pages shall not appear as if they're not part of your website at all. You may use this option for numerous errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Web Hosting

If you get a cloud web hosting from us, you will be able to set custom error pages for your Internet sites easily, because this feature is a part of all our plans. After you have created the files and uploaded them to your hosting account, you can go to the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and click on the Edit button for the specific domain or subdomain. In the pop-up which will show up, you shall see drop-down options menus for all 4 kinds of errors and for each of them you may pick an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a custom page. If you choose the third option, you should only type the URL to the file which you have uploaded then save the change. A different way to set personalized error pages is to set up an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder and to include several lines of code in it. If you do not have previous experience or if you're simply unsure how to do that, you can simply copy/paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that matter.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All Linux semi-dedicated hosting which we provide support custom error pages and it shall not take more than a few clicks in your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you will need to type in the links to the custom-made files through very simple drop-down menus and an easy to work with interface. Needless to say, you have to upload them to your account before that. In case you don't need to use this function at some point, you can disable it just as fast and pick an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you could also use an .htaccess file to activate the custom made error pages. The file needs to include a particular line of code and a link for every error type and you can find an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
